The room went so quiet you could hear the candles flicker.
Matt stood at that microphone, all five feet of him, in his perfectly pressed suit, and he looked directly at Selena and her husband with the calmest smile I had ever seen.
"I want to thank you," he said.
"For every comment you made.
Every whispered joke.
Every suggestion that I use the side door."
Selena's smile froze.
"Because my sister heard every single word.
And she still chose love over your approval.
That tells you everything about who raised her — and everything about who you are."
A woman in the third row started crying first.
Then another.
Then another.
Ryan reached over and took my hand.
Matt wasn't finished.
"Our parents didn't get to be here today.
But I have something they left behind."
He reached into his jacket and pulled out a small folded envelope.
My breath stopped.
I had never seen it before.
"They wrote this the week before the accident," Matt said, his voice steady.
"They asked me to read it on the day she got married."
He unfolded the letter slowly.
Selena shifted in her seat.
Her husband looked at the floor.
Two hundred people leaned forward.
And then Matt began to read — and what those words said made half the room break down completely.
