Three hundred wedding guests watched six-year-old Lily pull the missing ring from the folds of her own dress.
The room erupted in whispers.
Her father, David, went pale.
"Lily…
how did that get there?"
"I don't know!" she cried.
"Daddy, I didn't take it."
The bride stared at the ring in Lily's hand.
"Then explain that."
Lily shook her head, sobbing as people around her exchanged looks that already felt like a verdict.
For one terrible moment, even David looked uncertain.
Then the wedding videographer stepped forward.
"Before anyone decides what happened, look at the screen."
The ballroom went silent.
He connected his camera feed and rewound the footage from a few minutes earlier.
Lily appeared near the gift table.
Then another person moved into frame behind her.
The videographer paused.
A hand reached toward the back of Lily's dress.
David's expression changed instantly.
The bride stopped talking.
Lily looked up at her father through tears.
Suddenly, the ring in her hand wasn't proof of anything.
