Chapter 1: The Bride Who Almost Missed Her Own Wedding

My name is Sarah, and my wedding was scheduled for 3 p.m.
My fiancé Ryan and I had agreed on one tradition: no contact at all on the wedding day, not one text, not one call.
We wanted the first time we saw each other to be at the altar.
At noon, I sat down at the salon for my hair appointment, exactly on schedule, with plenty of time to spare before the ceremony.
Halfway through my updo, my phone rang.
It was Ryan.
I almost didn't answer, remembering our agreement, but something told me to pick up.
"Where are you?" he asked, his voice tight with panic.
"Everyone's already here.
Why haven't you shown up yet?"
I froze, the stylist's hands still in my half-finished hair.
"Ryan, the wedding's at 3.
I still have two hours."
"Sarah," he said slowly, "didn't you know?
My mom moved the ceremony up three hours.
She said she told everyone."
I had never heard from her.
Not one call, not one text.
I rushed out of that salon with my hair half-done, bobby pins still falling out, and drove to the venue faster than I've ever driven in my life.
I walked in to find my mother-in-law standing near the entrance, hair perfectly styled, smiling wide.
"Oh," she said sweetly, "didn't I mention I asked them to move the ceremony up three hours?"
I was furious.
But karma struck just two minutes later.
