Chapter 2: The Woman With the Same Ring

Part 2 ⬇️

My heart was hammering.

"Who are you?"

He glanced down the hallway again.

"My name is Derek.

I've known Myles for twelve years."

I stepped back.

"Then why are you sneaking around?

Why not just call him?"

"Because the last person who confronted him about this disappeared from his life overnight." He pulled out his phone and held up a photo.

"Do you recognize her?"

I stared at the screen.

It was a woman.

Smiling.

Wearing a ring almost identical to mine.

"That's his ex," I said slowly.

"He told me they broke up four years ago."

Derek shook his head.

"They didn't break up.

She found out something about Myles and walked away with nothing.

No explanation.

No goodbye to anyone who knew her." He paused.

"I've been trying to reach her for two years.

She won't talk about him.

Not a single word."

My legs felt unsteady.

"What did she find out?"

Derek opened his mouth — then his eyes snapped to something behind me.

His face went pale.

I turned around.

Myles was standing at the end of the hallway, keys still in his hand, staring directly at Derek.

Nobody moved.

Then Myles said, very quietly:

"I can explain."

What Myles said next made my bl00d run c0ld.
