Chapter 2: The Message From Nowhere

Part 2 ⬇️

Nobody spoke for a long moment.

Then Raymond grabbed my wrist across the table.

"What do you mean, crawl space?

What are you hiding, Sabrina?"

I pulled my arm free.

"I'm not hiding anything, Dad.

That's the difference between us."

Alyssa's brochure slipped from her fingers onto the floor.

"You're bluffing," she said.

"The buyer closes in eleven days," I said quietly.

"And the county inspector I called this morning?

He's already scheduled."

Alyssa spun toward Raymond.

"You told me everything was clean!

You said you checked!"

"I did check—"

"You checked the price," I said.

"You never checked the ground."

My phone buzzed on the table.

I turned it over.

It was a message from a number I didn't recognize.

*Sabrina.

We need to talk before the 25th.

There's something about Wyatt's accident your family doesn't want you to know.*

I stared at the screen.

My hands went still.

What Sabrina discovered next had nothing to do with the house — and everything to do with how Wyatt really d*ed.
