Chapter 1: The Drawing on Her Arm

When my granddaughter handed me a little drawing she'd made with the words "I LOVE YOU NANA" written across it, I nearly cried.

It was just a simple child's drawing, but to me, it meant everything.

I didn't have the easiest childhood, and I always dreamed that one day I'd have a loving family of my own.

Looking at that picture made me realize I finally had exactly that.

So I decided I wanted to keep it with me forever.

I told my husband, Rob, that I was thinking about having the drawing tattooed on my arm.

He didn't really react, so I assumed he didn't care.

A few days later, I went through with it.

When my granddaughter saw the tattoo, she absolutely LOVED it.

She was so excited that Nana had her artwork permanently on her arm, and seeing her face made me feel like I'd made the right decision.

Then I came home.

The second Rob saw the tattoo, he completely lost it.

He started ranting that tattoos were "trashy," that I had "ruined my body," and then said something that hurt even more: he told me he wasn't attracted to me anymore because of it.

I honestly couldn't believe what I was hearing.

We ended up having a huge argument, and now he's demanding that I have the tattoo removed.

Since then, he's barely spoken to me.

Now I'm torn.

Part of me wonders if I should remove it just to keep the peace in my marriage.

But another part of me looks at that little drawing on my arm and thinks about how happy it made my granddaughter.

She already knows I got it because I love her, and I can't imagine explaining to her why it suddenly disappeared.

I never thought something so innocent and meaningful could cause this much trouble in my marriage.

So I called his brother to ask for marriage advice.

What he told me left me speechless.

"Oh, honey, he's not mad because of the tattoo.

Don't you know what your granddaughter told him?"

Our six-year-old was the sweetest kid.

She could never say anything that would destroy my marriage.

At least, that's what I thought.

"No…

What did she say?"
