Part 2 ⬇️
They were in the kitchen.
Daniel had his arms wrapped around Anna, his face buried in her hair.
Neither of them heard me come in.
I stood there for what felt like forever.
My bag slipped from my shoulder and hit the floor.
They spun around.
Daniel's face went white.
"Rachel — this isn't what it looks like."
Anna stepped back, eyes down, saying nothing.
"Then tell me what it is," I said.

Closed it.

Anna and I…
we grew up together.
There's history.

It was over before we hired her.
I swear."
I looked at Anna.
"Is that true?"
She finally met my eyes.
And in that moment, something in her expression told me Daniel hadn't told me everything.
Before she could speak, my phone buzzed on the counter.
Daniel glanced at it — just for a second — but fast enough that I noticed.
It was face-down.
He had turned it face-down.
I walked over and picked it up.
The screen showed a message from a number I didn't recognize.
*She can't find out.
Not yet.
We need more time.*
The timestamp was from that morning.

What Rachel found on that phone changed everything she thought she knew.
