Chapter 1: The Chain
The house had gone too quiet.
Then I found my son in the laundry room.
Noah was only four, sitting beside the dog bowls with a loose chain around his neck and food scattered on a pet tray in front of him.
My mother-in-law Diane said she was teaching him to behave.
I took the chain off immediately.
She called me dramatic.
Then Ryan came home and somehow defended her, saying his mother's methods were just "old-fashioned."
That was when Noah looked at his father and whispered, "Daddy knows."
Ryan's face changed.
Noah pointed to Ryan's phone and said Daddy had watched Grandma do it before.
Then he said they had videos to show a judge that he was bad.
I looked at my husband and asked, "What judge?"
