Chapter 2: The Timestamp Doesn't Lie

Adrian's hands were shaking as he watched the footage on his phone.
The timestamp was clear.
Forty minutes before the party started, Vanessa had walked into the kitchen alone.
She peeled the shrimp label off.
She replaced it.
Then she opened Sophie's medicine bag, took out the EpiPen, and dropped it in the trash under the sink.
She had smiled while doing it.
Adrian walked back into the room.
Every guest was still there.
Vanessa was standing near the window, holding a glass of wine, laughing softly at something someone had said.
He stopped in the middle of the room.
"Show everyone what you did."
Vanessa turned slowly.
"Adrian, this is not the time—"
"I said show them."
The room went quiet.
Sophie pressed herself against the wall, her face pale.
Vanessa's smile didn't break.
"I made a mistake with the label.
That's all.
You're making a scene over nothing."
"Nothing." He held up the phone.
"You want to say that again?"
Vanessa's eyes dropped to the screen.
For the first time that evening, she said nothing.
But then Adrian's phone buzzed.
A message.
From a number he didn't recognize.
*She's done this before.
Not just to Sophie.
Check the hospital records from March.*
