Chapter 2: What the Auditor Found

Part 2 ⬇️
The elevator opened and twelve people walked out.
Sloane's lawyer.
Three board members.
Two auditors.
And every major investor who had funded the hotel from the ground up.
Grant's smile disappeared.
"What is this?" he said.
Sloane didn't look at him.
She looked at the investors.
"Gentlemen.
My husband just attempted to transfer this property using a contract I never signed.
I'd like you to see it."
The lawyer stepped forward and lifted the contract from the floor.
He turned it over once.
Then again.
"Mrs.
Sloane," he said quietly.
"This signature isn't yours."
The room went completely still.
Bianca's hand tightened around the office keys.
Grant took one step back.
"That's — that's a legal document.
She agreed to this months ago."
"She agreed to nothing," the lawyer said.
"And the construction account has been frozen pending a full audit.
Every transfer made in the last eight months is now under review."
Sloane finally turned to face Grant.
"You built nothing," she said.
"You signed nothing.
You risked nothing.
This hotel exists because of me."
She looked at the reporters.
Every camera was already raised.
Then one of the auditors opened a folder and held up a single page.
"Mr.
Grant," he said.
May you like
"Would you like to explain these withdrawals?"
Grant's face went pale.
