Chapter 2: The Name on the Phone

Part 2 ⬇️
Daniel didn't sleep that night.
He sat at the kitchen table with his phone face-down and waited until Rachel's breathing steadied in the next room.
Then he made one call.
"I need the name of every person who had contact with my wife in the last six weeks.
Fittings, events, staff.
Everyone."
The answer came back in under an hour.
One name appeared three times.
Victor Hale.
Head of image coordination.
Hired four months ago through a referral Daniel had never personally approved.
Daniel pulled the referral file.
The signature at the bottom belonged to his operations director.
A man Daniel had trusted for eleven years.
He set the paper down slowly.
Rachel appeared in the doorway.
She looked at his face and went still.
"Daniel."
"I found the message you were sent."
Her breath caught.
"The one about the silhouette."
"How—"
"It came from a company phone." His voice was quiet.
"Registered to my office."
Rachel wrapped her arms around herself.
"So someone inside your organization—"
"Yes."
"And they knew exactly what they were doing."
Daniel looked at the referral signature one more time.
"Rachel, I need you to tell me everything that happened in that fitting room."
She opened her mouth.
Then his phone lit up on the table.
The name on the screen made Daniel's jaw tighten.
It was the operations director.
Calling at 2 a.m.
