Chapter 1: She Made Him Practice
**MY WIFE MADE MY SON CALL ANOTHER MAN "DAD"—THEN HE TOLD ME WHAT SHE SAID ABOUT TONIGHT**
I came home earlier than anyone expected.
The first thing I heard was my son crying.
He was standing beside the playpen while my wife kept telling him:
"Say it again."
Then:
"Say it correctly."
The moment he saw me, he screamed:
"DADDY!"
He ran straight into my arms.
My wife went pale.
Then Mason—the man she claimed was only her security consultant—stepped toward us and said:
"Give him to Sienna."
I told him no.
He reached for my son anyway.
That ended badly for him.
Then Sienna tried to take my son herself.
Once.
Then again.
When everything finally stopped, I looked at my little boy.
"What was she making you say?"
Sienna immediately tried to interrupt.
I ignored her.
My son glanced at Mason.
Then at my wife.
And whispered:
"She made me practice calling Mason 'Dad.'"
I couldn't move.
I asked why he would ever need to call another man his father.
My son tightened his arms around my neck.
Then said:
"She said you wouldn't be coming back after tonight."
That was when Mason stopped looking at me.
And Sienna stopped talking.
I looked at both of them.
"What happens tonight?"
Neither answered.
So I asked the question they clearly didn't want to hear:
"What did you two plan?"
And suddenly I knew this wasn't just about another man trying to replace me.
It was about why my wife was preparing my son for a life where I apparently wouldn't be coming home.
