Chapter 1: She Worked Eight Saturdays for Nothing

My SIL REFUSED to pay my 15-year-old daughter for babysitting her two young children — so I made sure she learned her lesson.
My husband, Clark, is going through chemotherapy, and he isn't working at the moment.
I'm trying to cover everything by working double shifts at a grocery store, but it's still barely enough.
So when my 15-year-old daughter Amelia's old laptop finally stopped working, she didn't even tell me.
Instead, she started taking little side jobs to save up for a new one herself.
She'd help a neighbor carry groceries home, mow someone's lawn, clean up someone's garden, things like that.
Recently, Clark's sister, Katherine, offered Amelia a babysitting job.
Katherine works at a beauty salon, so Saturdays are her busiest days, and she had no one else to leave her 5- and 7-year-old kids with.
She offered Amelia $12 an hour.
Amelia fed the kids, played with them, read them books, and even cleaned their rooms and kept the kitchen tidy.
One Saturday, Katherine came home and told Amelia she'd pay her for the two weeks she'd worked the following Saturday because she supposedly didn't have any cash on her.
The next Saturday, she said she still hadn't gotten paid at work, so she'd pay her next time.
On the third Saturday, Katherine came up with another excuse NOT TO PAY Amelia.
The fourth Saturday was the same.
I finally called Katherine and asked what was going on.
She burst out laughing and said:
"Oh, BIG DEAL.
She reads to the kids and plays with them."
But I insisted that she pay Amelia and explained that my daughter was counting on that money because she was saving for a new laptop.
Katherine replied shamelessly:
"Oh, SHE CAN LIVE WITHOUT HER LAPTOP.
She doesn't do anything on Saturdays anyway.
At least this way, she's doing something useful instead of just hanging around.
Why should I have to PAY HER for that?"
That's when I realized there was no point in continuing the conversation with Katherine.
So the following Saturday, I asked Amelia to deliver a BOX FROM ME to Katherine.
A little while later, Katherine called me and screamed into the phone:
"How DARE YOU send me THIS?"

What was inside that box — and what happens when Katherine finds out this family doesn't back down?
