Chapter 1: The Door He Closed

My only son stopped speaking to me after his wedding and blocked my number — when I showed up at his house, he stared at me like I was a stranger and said, "How long were you planning to keep this from me?
Tina found the proof."
I raised my son alone after my husband d*ed when he was six.
For years, it was just the two of us.
We were close even after he grew up.
Sunday dinners, birthday calls, random texts asking which shirt looked better before a date.
Then he met Tina.
I liked her almost immediately.
She was warm, thoughtful, and never made me feel like I was competing for my son's attention.
When they got engaged, she even asked me to go wedding-dress shopping with her.
"I want you there," she said.
"You're family."
I cried when she found the dress.
Their wedding was beautiful.
I hugged them both before they left and honestly believed I wasn't losing a son — I was gaining a daughter.
Then everything changed.
The next morning, I texted them congratulations.
No reply.
Two days later, I called my son.
Straight to voicemail.
By the end of the week, my messages weren't even delivering.
He had blocked me.
So had Tina.
I replayed the wedding in my head a hundred times, trying to remember anything I could have said or done.
Nothing made sense.
After nearly two weeks, I couldn't take it anymore.
I drove to their house.
My son opened the door.
The look on his face stopped me cold.
There was no hug.
No "Mom."
He stared at me like I was someone he barely knew.
"What happened?" I asked.
"Why won't you talk to me?"
His jaw tightened.
"How long were you planning to keep this from me?"
I froze.
"Keep what from you?"
He let out a bitter laugh.
"Don't."
Then he glanced back into the house.
"Tina found the proof."
