Chapter 2: She Thought the Gate Being Unlocked Made It Fine

Part 2 👇
I watched the camera feed from inside the house.
Eloise had brought four people this time.
They dropped their bags, kicked off their shoes, and made themselves completely at home — like they owned the place.
I gave them ten minutes.
Then I walked outside.
The moment Eloise saw me, her smile disappeared.
"I thought you were away," she said.
"I came back early," I said.
"Just for this."
She looked around at her friends, then back at me.
"Look, we weren't doing any harm—"
"Eloise." I held up my phone and showed her the screen.
"I have six weeks of footage.
Every visit.
Every mess you left.
Every call where you told me I was being unreasonable."
Her face went pale.
One of her friends started gathering their things.
But Eloise lifted her chin.
"You can't do anything with that.
We didn't break in.
The gate was unlocked."
"You're right," I said.
"That's why I didn't call the police."
I smiled and nodded toward the side fence.
"I called your landlord instead."
Eloise froze.
"He was very interested to learn that you've been hosting parties at a neighbor's private property without permission.
Apparently that violates your lease."
Her face went white.
Her friends went completely silent.
Then she said something I never expected — something that told me this situation was far bigger than a pool.
---
What Eloise said next — and what I found out about her after that — changed everything.
