Chapter 1: The Morning He Went Too Far

My neighbor smashed my lawn sprinklers with a golf club because "the water was getting on his brand-new car" — I didn't call the police, but I came up with something better to teach him a lesson.

I woke up very early one morning because of a noise outside my window, and when I looked out, my jaw nearly dropped.

My neighbor, Paul, was smashing my automatic lawn sprinklers with a golf club.

I rushed outside in shock and shouted:

"Paul, what are you doing?!"

He just looked at me, raised his eyebrows, and said:

"Your sprinklers are spraying onto my driveway!

And guess what?

My car is WET now!"

My voice was trembling:

"Paul, I'm a single mother of two young kids.

I saved for a couple of months to have those sprinklers installed.

A few drops of water got on your car..."

He frowned and replied:

"I DON'T CARE!

I have a new car, and I'm not putting up with this.

This isn't the first time.

If you can't control your sprinklers, then you DON'T NEED them!"

I was practically shaking at his entitlement.

The thing is, Paul had always been like this.

He was incredibly rude and entitled.

Once, he stepped onto my lawn and took my flowerpots because they "looked ugly to him." Another time, he threw my son's bike onto my lawn, RIGHT INTO MY FLOWERS, because the bike had been on the walkway and was supposedly blocking his way.

And once, he even filed a complaint with the HOA because he didn't like my kids' treehouse.

I always tried to keep the peace, like neighbors are supposed to.

But this time, Paul had crossed every line.

And it was obvious that he'd destroyed my sprinklers while feeling completely justified.

His conscience didn't bother him one bit.

Well, calling the police or trying to talk to him again seemed pointless.

He simply wasn't going to respond to reason.

But it was time for him to LEARN A LESSON.

That evening, when he pulled into his driveway and walked up to his porch, he suddenly screamed:

"WHAT IS THAT ON MY PORCH?

No, this can't be happening!

How dare you?"
