Chapter 2: What the Camera Saw

Part 2 ⬇️

Kelly's video started three minutes before I had even noticed Wendy move.

There was Fiona, sitting quietly with her little paper crown, reaching for a bread roll.

And there was Wendy — leaning across, grabbing Fiona's wrist, squeezing it hard enough that Fiona flinched and pulled back.

Then Wendy sl\*pped her.

But that wasn't the part that stopped my breathing.

In the corner of the frame, barely visible — Luca was already looking in that direction.

He saw it happen.

He turned back to his soup.

I called Kelly immediately.

"How many people have seen this?" I asked.

"Just me so far," she said.

"But Jessi…

keep watching.

There's something at the end."

I scrubbed forward.

The last thirty seconds showed Wendy leaning toward Luca's aunt and whispering something.

The aunt nodded slowly and glanced toward the door — the exact door I had just walked out of with Fiona.

Kelly's voice dropped.

"I looked it up.

That aunt works at the family court office downtown."

The phone felt heavy in my hand.

Fiona shifted in her sleep behind me, and I realized what Wendy had already started planning — before the cake even hit the table.

This wasn't just a sl\*p.

This was the opening move.
