Chapter 2: The Same Words, Turned Around

Part 2 ⬇️

Nathan pushed the door open slowly.

Patricia was still in bed.

Fast asleep.

It was 5:10 in the morning.

Nathan pulled out his phone and took a photo.

Then he leaned over and gently touched her shoulder.

"Mom.

Wake up."

She stirred, blinking against the darkness.

"Nathan?

What on earth—"

"Almost five in the morning," he said calmly.

"And you're still lying in bed."

She sat up, confused.

"I was sleeping.

What is wrong with you?"

"We all get tired," Nathan said.

"That doesn't mean the world stops.

Get up, take a shower, and make yourself useful."

He was using her exact words.

Every single one.

Patricia's face changed.

She looked at me standing in the doorway.

Then back at Nathan.

"That is completely different—"

"Is it?" He held up his phone.

The photo of me, sick and pale, was right next to the new one of her.

"Because from where I'm standing, it looks exactly the same."

Her mouth opened.

Nothing came out.

Then Nathan did something I didn't expect.

He opened Facebook.

Patricia grabbed his arm.

"Nathan, don't you dare—"

But his expression didn't change.

And what he typed next made her go completely silent.
