Chapter 2: The Box, the Photos, and the Threat She Never Saw Coming

The scream was so loud that doors up and down the corridor flew open.

I stayed in our cabin, heart pounding, waiting.

Then came the knock.

Hard.

Furious.

I opened the door.

Donna was standing there in her robe, face red, shaking — holding the box with both hands.

Inside it were printed photos.

Every single time she had walked into our cabin uninvited.

Every cocktail she had demanded.

Every dinner she had crashed.

I had asked a crew member to help me document it all.

And on top of the photos was a single note that read:

*"The cruise director has a copy of this too.

One more incident and you will be escorted off at the next port."*

Donna's mouth opened.

Nothing came out.

Then Gary stepped up beside me.

He had seen everything.

"Mom," he said quietly.

"I think it's time we had a real conversation."

She looked at him — then at me — and something shifted in her face.

Not guilt.

Something colder than that.

"You have no idea," she said slowly, "what I know about this woman."

Gary went very still.

"What are you talking about?" he asked.

Donna's eyes locked onto mine.

And she smiled.

"Ask her," she said.

"Ask her what she was doing the summer before you two got married."
