Chapter 1: The Beach Photos

My husband went on vacation without me just days before my scheduled C-section with our twins — when he came home, a special surprise from me was waiting for him.

My husband, Trevor, and I were overjoyed when we found out I was pregnant with twins.

But the pregnancy was really difficult.

My doctor told me I'd need a scheduled C-section.

As my due date drew closer, the doctor even set an exact date.

The doctor warned us that recovery after a C-section could be difficult, so Trevor needed to be prepared to help me with everything around the house and with the babies.

Instead, he came up to me and said:

"Honey, my friends and I decided to go on vacation by the ocean.

What could be better, right?"

My jaw practically dropped.

I said:

"Trevor, my C-section is scheduled in just A FEW DAYS.

I can barely get out of bed.

How could NOW possibly be the right time for a vacation?"

He just shrugged and said:

"I want to relax before all the crying, diaper changes, and everything else starts.

I'll be back for the C-section.

What's the problem?"

He stood his ground and kept repeating that he wanted to rest before the babies arrived, even though he could see that I was struggling just to walk across the room to get a glass of water.

He left anyway, even though I begged him to postpone the trip.

My mom came over to help me around the house.

And just a few days later, exactly as planned, I was admitted to the hospital for my scheduled C-section.

Meanwhile, Trevor was posting photos of himself seated on the beach, sipping cocktails almost 1,200 miles away.

So, as you can probably guess, he DIDN'T MAKE IT BACK for the birth.

I gave birth to two beautiful baby girls.

By the time I was discharged from the hospital and came home, Trevor was already supposed to be back from his vacation.

I didn't text him.

I didn't call him.

But he wasn't going to escape responsibility.

He needed to learn his lesson.

I invited SOMEONE to our house on the day Trevor was supposed to return.

The moment he stepped through the door and saw WHO was waiting for him in the living room, he dropped his suitcase.

He shouted:

"No, not YOU!"
