Chapter 1: The Woman Who Used to Be Fun

My husband wanted 6 kids, but after our youngest was born, he complained that I was "always tired and no fun anymore" — so I decided to prove I could still be fun, just not in the way he expected.
My husband, Carter, and I have been married for nine years.
Since the day we met, he made it clear he wanted a massive family, constantly talking about having at least six kids.
We actually hit that number recently.
We now have six children, all under the age of ten.
In the beginning, Carter kept his promises and was a very hands-on dad.
But right around the time our fourth child was born, things completely changed.
He started finding excuses to stay late at the office and picking up new hobbies, openly admitting he was just "tired of the noise" at home.
Now, my daily reality is an endless, exhausting cycle of diapers, laundry, and school runs, while Carter firmly acts like his parenting duties don't exist anymore.
Yesterday was Saturday.
I had been awake since 3 AM with our youngest, who was teething and fussy.
By the time Carter finally rolled out of bed at 10 AM, I was completely drained, standing in the kitchen trying to make pancakes while breaking up an argument between our older boys.
Carter walked in, completely ignoring the chaos.
I wiped my hands on a towel and quietly asked if he could watch the kids for just twenty minutes so I could finally take a quick shower.
He sighed heavily and glanced at his phone.
"I can't," he said.
He slowly looked me up and down, taking in my messy hair and stained sweatpants, and shook his head.
"You know, you used to be so energetic.
Now you're just always tired and no fun anymore."
He grabbed his golf bag and headed for the door.
But something in my brain just clicked.
I smiled, agreed with him, and let him go.
When he came home, he found the coolest proof that I could still be fun.
Just not in the way he expected.
