Chapter 2: The Name Nobody Was Supposed to Know
Daniel stood frozen, staring at Chloe's tablet.
His face went pale.
Linda stepped forward and grabbed for it.
"That child doesn't know what she's looking at."
But Chloe pulled it back.
"I do, Grandma.
I watched you do it."
The room went completely still.
Daniel turned to his mother slowly.
"You used a fake-message generator?"
Linda's voice shifted.
"She's seven years old, Daniel.
She's confused."
"I'm not confused." Chloe looked straight at her father.
"She did it at the kitchen table while you were at work.
She thought I was asleep."
I couldn't breathe.
My daughter had been carrying this alone.
Daniel took the tablet from Chloe's hands and scrolled through every photo.
His jaw tightened with each one.
Then he stopped.
He had found something I hadn't seen yet.
He looked up at Linda.
His voice was quiet.
Dangerously quiet.
"Who is Margaret Holt?"
Linda's face changed completely.
And for the first time since this started, she had nothing to say.
