Chapter 2: The Name on the Document

Part 2 ⬇️
The driver had barely pulled away from the Vance estate when my phone lit up.
It was Harrison again.
"Miss Blackwood.
Your father already knows.
He's been watching the Vance Group for weeks."
I looked down at Maya.
She had fallen asleep against my shoulder, her small fingers still curled around mine.
"How much does he know?" I asked quietly.
"Everything.
Including the offshore accounts Julian opened six months ago.
The ones he registered under Maya's name without your signature."
My grip tightened around the phone.
"He used her name?"
"To hide assets before the divorce, Miss Blackwood.
It was planned.
The papers he handed you today were not the first draft."
The car felt very still.
Julian hadn't lost his temper today.
He had executed a plan.
Every insult.
Every laugh.
Every signature he pushed me to sign.
It had all been calculated.
"Harrison," I said slowly.
"Who helped him draft those documents?"
A pause.
"That is what your father wants to discuss tonight.
Because one of the signatures on the original filing...
belongs to someone inside the Blackwood family."
The line went quiet.

Outside the window, the city lights blurred past.
Someone I trusted had helped Julian build the trap I had just walked out of.
