Chapter 2: The Package That Broke His Silence

**— PART 2 —**

The package was sitting right in the middle of our living room.

It was a professional cleaning and childcare service.

Four people.

Uniforms.

A full day's booking — paid in advance with money from our joint account.

Derek's face went white.

"You spent our money on THIS?"

"Yes," I said calmly.

"Since you made it clear the kids are only my responsibility, and I'm too sick to function, I hired help.

Someone has to care for them."

He stepped closer.

"You had no right—"

"I had every right.

You told me to handle everything.

So I did."

One of the neighbors at the door — our next-door neighbor, Linda — let out a slow breath.

She'd heard everything.

Derek turned to her.

"This is none of your business."

Linda didn't move.

"Derek, the whole street heard you this morning."

His jaw tightened.

He looked back at me, then at the two little ones sitting on the floor, completely unbothered, already playing with one of the helpers.

Then his phone buzzed.

He glanced at the screen — and something shifted in his face.

Not anger.

Something closer to fear.

He stepped into the hallway and lowered his voice.

But I caught three words before the door clicked shut.

*"She found out."*
