Chapter 1: The Man Who Said I Did Nothing

My husband refused to help with our kids during my asthma flare-up, saying, "You stay home and do nothing anyway.

The kids are your responsibility" — so I put him in his place.

I developed asthma about a year ago.

For the most part, it was manageable.

I just took my medication, and I barely even noticed it.

But recently, I caught a really bad cold.

And my asthma flared up badly.

For two nights, I barely slept.

I was exhausted and coughing constantly.

But our kids, who are 2 and 3, still needed me to make their meals, play with them, put them to bed, bathe them, and everything else.

Honestly, I was barely functioning.

So I went to my husband, Derek, and asked him to help take care of the kids.

Maybe take a day off or work from home so I could get more rest and recover faster.

On top of that, I was terrified of getting the kids sick, so I was constantly wearing a mask around them, which was really uncomfortable.

He crossed his arms and said:

"You stay home, so YOU have to take care of the kids.

You don't do anything anyway...

I'M THE ONLY ONE WHO WORKS AROUND HERE!"

Of course, I didn't expect that response, but I was so exhausted that I didn't even argue.

The next day, I asked Derek if he could at least go to the pharmacy and pick up my medication.

He made a face and said:

"Oh God, what else do you need?

I have to go to work!

Go to the pharmacy yourself!"

My stomach twisted.

"Derek, how can you say that?

I'm just asking you to go to the pharmacy.

You have enough time before work.

It's only ten minutes from the house."

He shouted back:

"No!

I'm not doing it!

You should be grateful you even have me!

NO OTHER MAN WOULD PUT UP WITH A SICK WIFE!

You stay home, so YOU take care of everything!"

He slammed the door and left for work.

I was shocked.

But I wasn't going to let him treat me like that.

The fact that he worked didn't give him the right to insult me like this.

I did everything around the house — took care of two young children, cleaned, cooked — and this was how he treated me?

It was time for Derek to understand that he couldn't treat me this way.

So I arranged for a SPECIAL PACKAGE to be delivered to our home.

When Derek came home that evening, he screamed at the top of his lungs:

"Oh God, what have you done?

NO, NOT THIS!"

A moment later, even our neighbors started knocking on our door TO SEE WHAT WAS INSIDE THE PACKAGE.

---

What was in that package — and why did Derek completely lose it?
