Chapter 2: The Empty Room and the Message That Changed Everything

Part 2 ⬇️
Brenda stood frozen in the doorway, her face white.
The living room was empty.
Not messy.
Not redecorated.
Empty.
The furniture she had picked out, the family photos she had insisted on hanging, the cabinet she had "gifted" us and never let me forget — all of it was gone.
David pushed past her and stopped cold.
"What did you do?" he said.
"What I should have done years ago," I said.
"I separated what's mine from what isn't."
Brenda spun toward me.
"That cabinet was a family heirloom.
You had no right—"
"I have every right," I said.
"Check the paperwork.
Everything I removed was purchased with my income.
I have the receipts."
David's jaw tightened.
"This is insane.
You're acting insane."
"Am I?" I pulled out my phone and opened the banking app.
"Then explain this to me.
In your own words.
Right now."
He went quiet.
Brenda looked at him.
Something passed between them — a look I had never seen before.
Not guilt.
Not surprise.
Recognition.
Like they had already talked about what would happen if I ever found out.
Then my phone buzzed.
It was a message from a number I didn't recognize.
Four words:
*There's more you don't know.*
---
May you like
What that message revealed shook everything she thought she understood.
