Chapter 2: What the Attorney Found

Part 2 ⬇️
Glenn's smile didn't disappear right away.
It faded slowly, like he was still trying to decide if I was joking.
I wasn't.
I looked him in the eye and said:
"Before we get married, I want to put the lake house in a trust.
In my name only.
No joint ownership.
Ever."
The silence at that table was something I'll never forget.
He set down his fork.
"A trust?" he said.
"Why would you do that?"
"Because it was my grandfather's," I said.
"And I want to protect it."
Glenn laughed — but it wasn't the warm laugh I used to love.
It was tight.
Careful.
"Sweetheart, we're going to be married.
What's yours is mine.
That's how it works."
I smiled and said nothing.
He reached across the table and took my hand.
"You don't need a lawyer involved in this.
It's just us."
That was the moment I knew exactly how far he was willing to go.
What I hadn't told Glenn yet was that I'd already spoken to an attorney.
And what the attorney found in the property records made my blood run c0ld.
Glenn had done this before.
---
What did the attorney find — and who was the woman in those records?
The full truth is darker than anyone expected.
