Everyone at the wedding turned to stare.
Melissa's face had gone completely white.
Her hands were shaking so badly she nearly dropped the box.
Her new husband leaned over to look inside.
He went very still.
"Melissa," he said quietly.
"What is this?"
She snapped the lid shut and forced a laugh.
"It's nothing.
It's just a joke gift.
Alice has always been jealous of me."
I kept my voice calm.
"Open it again.
Let everyone see."
She didn't move.
Ryan stepped forward and took the box from her hands.
When he lifted the lid, I watched his expression change.
Inside was a single photograph — and a folded document.
The photograph showed Melissa in my apartment.
Standing at my open closet.
Holding my grandmother's dress.
The document was a written statement from my neighbor, who had seen Melissa enter the building alone the morning the dress went missing.
Ryan looked at his sister for a long time without speaking.
Then Melissa did something none of us expected.
She turned to her new husband and said four words that made the entire room go silent.
