Chapter 1: The Dress She Had No Right to Touch

My future SIL st0le the wedding dress my late grandmother had made for me — so I brought her a wedding gift that left her trembling.
It just so happened that when my boyfriend, Ryan, proposed to me, his sister Melissa was already preparing for her own wedding.
So basically, we were planning our weddings at the same time.
The only difference was that Melissa's wedding was supposed to take place about a month before mine.
And honestly, it felt like hell.
Melissa was used to nobody ever telling her no, and usually, whatever she wanted, she got.
Then the constant comments started.
Things like:
"Oh, Alice, you ordered white peonies?
I want those too!"
Or:
"You're having a three-tier wedding cake?
I want one too.
Give me your baker's contact info."
And it was constant.
I didn't mind sharing some of my ideas, but she was basically stealing my plans and my vendors.
There was even one situation where she booked my florist, and later he told me there were no white peonies left because they'd all been reserved for Melissa's wedding.
So I had to choose different flowers.
I asked Melissa to stop interfering with my wedding, but she wouldn't listen.
She'd just say:
"God, you're so selfish!
My wedding is first, so I need it more!"
Still, I tried to keep the peace in the family.
But then Melissa crossed every possible line.
One day, I was trying on my wedding dress at home when she happened to stop by to have coffee with Ryan.
She saw me wearing it and said:
"Wow, that dress is gorgeous.
I want to wear that at my wedding!
Where did you buy it?"
I smiled politely and said:
"My grandmother made it for me when she knew she was dying of cancer.
She finished this dress and passed away less than a month later.
I'm wearing it in her honor.
So no, you can't buy one like it in a store."
Then I carefully hung the dress back in my closet.
Melissa stayed a while longer with Ryan and then left.
Two days later, it was Melissa's wedding day.
I opened my closet to get the dress I'd planned to wear to her wedding, and my wedding dress was gone.
I searched everywhere for it.
Ryan and I were already running late, so we left for Melissa's wedding.
I figured I'd keep looking for it when we got home.
And then what do I see?
Melissa was wearing my wedding dress!
I walked straight over to Melissa, and when I asked what the hell this was supposed to mean, she just smiled and said:
"Sweetheart, don't be so selfish.
It looks better on me anyway!"
That was it.
It was time for Melissa to learn her lesson.
So I made one phone call and asked them to have a special gift delivered by courier.
When I brought it out to Melissa and she opened the lid, she started trembling.
Her screams could probably be heard from space.
