He screamed.
Not a yell — a sharp, humiliated yelp that filled the whole room.
Corinne spun around.
"What did you just—"
"Move." I said it once.
Quietly.
Weston was already hopping backward, grabbing the door frame for balance.
I reached past him, turned the deadbolt myself, and walked out.
The cold air hit my face.
My back was still throbbing.
My hands were shaking.
But I didn't stop walking.
I was almost at my car when I heard Corinne's voice behind me.
"You'll regret this, Ava.
Everything you think you own?
Weston's name is on more than you know."
I stopped.
I turned around slowly.
"What did you just say?"
She smiled the same smile from inside.
"Check your accounts, sweetheart.
Both of them."
My phone was already in my hand.
I opened my banking app.
The joint account I'd set up for wedding expenses — the one only I deposited into — showed a balance of $214.
I had put in $31,000 three weeks ago.
My fingers went cold.
Weston was still standing in the doorway.
He wasn't panicking.
He wasn't sorry.

A wire transfer.
Authorized two days ago.
With my signature.
A signature I never wrote.
