Chapter 2: What He Pulled From His Pocket

PART 2 ⬇️
Kevin pulled out his phone.
He opened it, turned the screen toward Patricia, and pressed play.
It was a voice recording.
Patricia's own voice filled the bridal suite.
*"She'll never really be one of us.
A woman with that kind of history?
Kevin deserves better.
I just want him to see what he's actually marrying."*
The room went completely still.
One of my bridesmaids covered her mouth.
Patricia's smile disappeared.
"Kevin, I — that was taken out of context —"
"I recorded it myself, Mom.
Three weeks ago.
In your kitchen."
Patricia's face went pale.
"You were going to humiliate her in front of every person we love," Kevin said.
"On her wedding day.
While she was wearing that veil."
"I was trying to protect you —"
"Stop."
He set the phone down on the dressing table.
Then he looked at me, not his mother.
"I'm sorry.
I should have handled this sooner."
Patricia reached for his arm.
"Kevin, please.
Don't let her come between us —"
He stepped back.
"You did that yourself."
Then he said four words that made Patricia grab the wall to steady herself.
---
What Kevin said next changed everything — and Patricia's reaction shocked everyone in that room.
