Chapter 2: What the Camera Remembered

Ryan stood at the gate, barefoot on the cold pavement, staring at the mansion like he'd never seen it before.
Maybe he hadn't.
Not really.
**"This is insane,"** he said.
**"Open the gate.
We need to talk."**
**"We're done talking, Ryan."**
I got Margaret inside and sat her down.
She was shaking.
I asked her again — quietly, just the two of us — how long it had been going on.
She looked at her hands for a long moment.
**"Since the first week you traveled,"** she finally said.
**"Vivian told me if I said anything, she'd make sure you never believed me."**
My throat tightened.
The first week.
That was over a year ago.
I pulled up the home security app.
The camera history was still there — every room, every day, timestamped.
I hadn't checked it in months.
I started scrolling.
What I saw made me set the phone down on the table very slowly.
Margaret watched my face.
**"What is it?"**
I couldn't answer her yet.
Because what was on that footage wasn't just Vivian.
Ryan's car was in the driveway on a Tuesday — the same Tuesday he told me he was in Chicago for work.
And he wasn't alone.

What was on that footage changed everything.
