Chapter 1: The Bill She Was Never Meant to Pay

My fiancé's mother invited my mom to an expensive restaurant for their first meeting, then disappeared and left her alone with a $2,300 bill — so I taught her a lesson she'd never forget.

My mom and my fiancé's mother, Karen, had never met before.

So Karen invited my mom to an upscale restaurant so they could finally meet.

I didn't have a problem with that, but for context, my mom doesn't usually go to places like that because she has a modest income.

Karen also said she was going to invite her sisters and, on top of that, pay for my mom's meal because it was their first meeting and she wanted to treat her.

My mom happily agreed to go, although I still had a strange feeling about it.

The thing is, Karen and her sisters are wealthy, but they're also incredibly cheap.

Still, I kept telling myself that maybe Karen genuinely wanted to make a nice gesture.

At the restaurant, Karen and her sisters ordered expensive wine, lobster, and all kinds of fancy desserts.

My mom, on the other hand, ordered just one small dish — a salad.

Then suddenly, Karen's sisters said something urgent had come up and stepped out of the restaurant.

So Karen was left alone with my mom.

A short while later, Karen went to the restroom to "fix her makeup" and never came back.

My mom sat there confused, waiting for her for half an hour.

Then the waiter brought her a $2,300 bill and told her she'd have to cover it because all the women she'd been dining with had already left without paying.

My mom called me in tears because she had no idea what to do.

I was furious.

I immediately drove to the restaurant, calmed my mom down, and phoned Karen.

I tried to stay calm.

"Karen, you left my mom with the bill even though you said you were treating her.

What is going on?"

Karen just giggled and said:

"Oh, I changed my mind.

We're family now, aren't we?

Consider it your mom's treat for our first meeting."

I was still trying to keep my composure.

"Karen, what are you talking about?

My mom doesn't have that kind of money, and you knew that.

You invited your sisters too.

How is my mom supposed to pay a bill like that?

That's a huge amount of money for her!"

Karen started insisting that it was only fair for my mom to pay, and then she hung up.

Oh, so that had been their plan?

To eat at my mom's expense without even warning her?

How could anyone be that greedy?

I'd had enough.

It was time for Karen to learn a lesson.

And then a brilliant idea came to me.

Right there in the restaurant, I went over to the waiter and asked him to call the manager.

Then I asked the manager to do something for me.

A moment later, Karen called me back screaming:

"Oh no, what have you done?

How dare you?"

What did Karen get hit with — and did she finally get what she deserved?
