Chapter 2: What Lily Carried Down the Aisle

Part 2 ⬇️

Every guest went silent.

I looked down at what Lily was holding out to us with both hands.

It was a photograph.

Old.

Creased at the corners.

The kind you print and keep hidden, not display.

In the photo, Connor was standing outside a church — in a suit.

Smiling.

And next to him was a woman I had never seen before.

She was wearing a white dress.

Not Rachel.

Someone else entirely.

My throat closed.

"Connor," I said again, louder this time.

"Who is she?"

He reached for the photo, but I stepped back.

Lily was crying now, her small voice barely above a whisper.

"Mommy said you needed to know.

She said it wasn't fair."

I looked up and found Rachel in the crowd.

She wasn't smiling.

She wasn't gloating.

She just looked at me with something close to pity.

And that was worse than anything else.

Connor grabbed my arm.

"Please.

Let me explain.

It was before you.

It was before everything."

"Before everything?" My voice cracked.

"Connor, is that a wedding photo?"

He didn't answer.

And the silence told me everything.

Then my maid of honor stepped forward and held up her phone.

"There's more," she said quietly.

"You need to see this."
