Chapter 2: The Photograph That Should Not Exist

Part 2 ⬇️
My father wasn't looking at me.
He was staring at my son.
His hands were shaking.
His mouth kept opening and closing like he was trying to find words that wouldn't come.
"Dad." I stepped forward.
"What's wrong?"
He pointed at my boy — my eight-year-old, who was now gripping the porch railing and staring back at this stranger with wide, confused eyes.
"That face," my father whispered.
"That is not possible."
Liam put a hand on my shoulder.
"Sir, I think you should calm down."
My father turned on him so fast I flinched.
"You." His voice dropped to something cold and sharp.
"You knew, didn't you?
You knew the whole time."
"Knew what?" I said.
"Dad, you're scaring the children."
He reached into his jacket with a trembling hand and pulled out a photograph.
Old.
Folded at the corners.
He held it up.
I went completely still.
The boy in that photo — dark eyes, same jaw, same slight tilt of the head — looked exactly like my son.
But the photo was at least forty years old.
"Who is that?" I asked quietly.
My father looked at Liam.
Liam looked at the ground.
And neither of them said a word.
