Chapter 2: She Said She Found Her

Part 2 ⬇️

The officer stepped away from the couch and spoke quietly into his radio.

I couldn't hear everything.

Just fragments.

"...confirmed...

yes...

we need a supervisor on scene...

now."

My daughter sat perfectly still.

She didn't cry.

She didn't explain.

She just watched the officer with those calm, exhausted eyes.

"Sweetheart, please." My voice was shaking.

"Tell me what's happening."

She looked at me for a long moment.

"I found her, Mom."

"Found her?

Found who?"

She glanced at the baby, then back at me.

"She was alone.

In a room.

No food.

No one coming."

My chest went cold.

Before I could speak, the front door opened.

A second officer walked in — and behind him, a woman in a dark jacket I didn't recognize.

She wasn't in uniform.

She went straight to my daughter, crouched down, and said something I couldn't hear.

My daughter nodded once.

Then the woman stood up, turned to me, and said quietly:

"Your daughter didn't st*al this child."

She paused.

"She's the one who called us ten days ago.

We just couldn't tell you why."

I looked at my daughter.

She was already looking at me.

And for the first time since she'd walked through that door — she started to cry.

---

What really happened during those ten days — and who did that baby belong to?
