Chapter 2: The Folder on the Table

Part 2 ⬇️
Grace looked at Ethan the way you look at a stranger who has just asked you for directions.
Polite.
Distant.
Completely unbothered.
"I'm here for a meeting, Ethan."
"With him?" Ethan's voice dropped.
"You flew here with Declan Pierce?"
"He flew me here," Grace said simply.
"There's a difference."
Declan said nothing.
He just stood there, calm as stone, watching Ethan the way a man watches something he has already decided about.
Ethan stepped closer.
"Grace, whatever you think you're doing—"
"I'm not thinking." She opened the black folder slightly.
"I'm signing."
Ethan caught a glimpse of the document inside.
His company's name was at the top.
His company.
He felt the floor shift beneath him.
"That's—" He stopped.
"Where did you get that?"
Grace closed the folder.
"You should go back to your conference, Ethan." She glanced once more at Vanessa.
"Both of you."
The elevator opened.
Grace stepped in.
Declan followed without a word.
Just before the doors closed, Grace looked directly at her husband one last time.
She wasn't angry.
She wasn't broken.
She was done.
The doors shut.
Ethan stood alone in the middle of that glittering lobby, Vanessa silent behind him, and realized something had just happened that he could not undo.
