Chapter 2: He Still Doesn't Know Anything

Part 2 ⬇️
My hands were shaking so badly I could barely dial.
Those five words the groom said into that phone — "He still doesn't know anything" — hit me like ice water.
He was talking about my son.
I pressed myself against the wall and kept listening.
My ex-husband's voice came through the speaker, low and calm, like a man who had planned every detail.
"Just get through the ceremony.
Once it's legal, we move forward."
Move forward.
I didn't know what that meant.
But I knew it was nothing good.
I stepped out of that restroom and looked across the wedding hall at my son.
He was laughing with one of the guests, completely unaware.
And standing beside him, smiling that careful smile, was the man he was about to marry.
I called the police because I didn't know what else to do.
But before they arrived, something happened that I never expected.
My ex-husband walked through the door.
He looked directly at me — not at our son, not at the groom.
At me.
And he smiled.
That was when I realized this wasn't just about the wedding.
This had always been about me.
