I met Cara in college thirteen years ago.
From the start, it felt like we were meant to be together.
For three years, we were inseparable.
We talked about our future, built our lives around each other, and shared the kind of quiet everyday moments I thought would last forever.
Then one morning, she was gone.
The night before, we'd had a stupid argument about our future.
By the next day, Cara had packed her things and disappeared.
She deleted her social media, changed her phone number, and left me with no way to reach her.
For ten years, I searched for her.
I moved on with my life as best I could, but nobody ever truly replaced her in my heart.
Then one evening, someone rang my doorbell.
When I opened the door, Cara was standing there.

At her funeral, while her casket was being lowered, a woman dressed in black stepped out from behind the small crowd.
I'd never seen her before.
She walked straight toward me and silently pressed an envelope into my hand.
Then she leaned closer and looked directly into my eyes.
"She wasn't ready to tell you why she really came back," she whispered.
