Chapter 1: The Husband I Bought

I married a homeless man out of spite for my parents — a month later, I came home and couldn't believe what I was seeing.
I'm 34, and for years my parents had been obsessed with the fact that I still wasn't married.
They constantly tried setting me up with men, mostly because they were desperate for grandchildren.
Then they finally went too far.
They told me that unless I got married before turning 35, I wouldn't receive a cent of their inheritance.
And I only had a few months left.
I was furious.
Then one day, I passed a homeless man asking for money.
He looked rough, but there was something kind about his eyes.
And suddenly, I had an idea.
I stepped up to him and asked if he'd marry me.
I made the arrangement perfectly clear.
It wouldn't be a real marriage.
I'd give him a place to live, clean clothes, and money.
In return, all he had to do was pretend to be my husband.
His name was Stan.
And to my surprise, he agreed.
I bought him new clothes, and three days later, I brought him to meet my parents as my fiancé.
They were absolutely thrilled.
Not long after that, Stan and I got married.
Then, just a month after that, I came home and got the shock of my life.
I stood there with my eyes wide, struggling to process what I was seeing.
