Chapter 2: The Second Envelope

My hands were shaking so badly I nearly dropped the document.
The name at the bottom wasn't a stranger's.
It was my mother's lawyer.
The same man who had handled every contract, every trust, every legal decision in our family for twenty years.

Exhausted.

She pulled out a second envelope.
Smaller.
Sealed.
"I wasn't going to show you this," she said quietly.
"But you need to know what she was really trying to hide."
She held it out.
My mother stepped forward.
"Arthur.
Don't open that."

The full truth is more shocking than anyone expected.
