Denise read the second text aloud so Detective Cole could hear every word.
Nobody moved.
Then Rachel's voice came from the doorway — quiet, controlled, the way a person sounds when they have already decided something.
"I remembered it an hour ago."
Vanessa turned first.
Her face did not show guilt.
It showed calculation — a quick scan of the room, counting who was present and what each person knew.
"That camera malfunctions all the time," Vanessa said.
"Everyone in the family knows that."
"Denise has the phone," Rachel said.
"The message has a timestamp.
Would you like to explain why you sent it before the ambulance arrived?"
Vanessa said nothing.
Detective Cole stepped closer.
"Who else was in the kitchen that morning?"
The silence stretched too long.
Then a name came from the corner of the room — not from Rachel, not from Vanessa, but from Naomi, who had been standing quietly with her notepad and had not spoken in twenty minutes.
She said the name the way you say something you have been holding back for too long.
Every head turned.
Rachel's hand found the wall.
