Chapter 2: The Name That Silenced Them

Christian grabbed Sienna’s shoulders, but she pulled away.
“Don’t touch me.”
“Look what you did to my mother!” he shouted.
“And look at my lip.”
Gwen climbed to her feet and began crying.
“She refused the money, then pushed me down.
I’ve always warned you she thinks she’s better than us.”
Christian turned coldly toward his wife.
“Transfer the thirty thousand and apologize.”
Sienna stared at him.
“You didn’t even ask what happened.”
“I know my mother.”
“No,” Sienna said softly.
“You know the story she tells you.”
She took out her phone.
Gwen’s face changed when Sienna tapped the screen.
“What are you doing?” Christian demanded.
“Canceling every card connected to my account.”
“You can’t do that!” Gwen cried.
The fear in her voice was stronger than her anger.
At that moment, Sienna’s phone displayed a declined charge for $18,700 from a company she had never heard of.
“What is ‘Desert Crown Holdings’?” Sienna asked.
Christian froze.
Gwen stopped crying.
Then Sienna opened the recording she had quietly saved.
Gwen’s voice filled the room: “In this family, you obey.”
But before the rest could play, Christian reached for the phone and whispered something that made Sienna’s stomach turn.
“Mother, she cannot find out what that company is.”
