Chapter 1: The Price of Letting Go

Elena stood quietly, holding the final divorce papers in her hands.
On the leather sofa in front of her sat Marcus, her husband, with his arm wrapped tightly around his new partner, Chloe.
They looked comfortable together, sharing a brief kiss before Marcus turned his attention to Elena with an impatient look.
"Let's stop dragging this out," Marcus said, his voice cold.
"Sign it and move on."
Beside him, Chloe flashed a smug, triumphant grin, eager to see Elena officially out of the picture.
Elena took a slow, deep breath.
Her expression remained remarkably calm.
"You know what?
Fine," she replied softly.
She took a pen, signed her name on the dotted line, and finalized their separation.
She turned and began to walk away.
But after a few steps, she paused and glanced back over her shoulder.
"By the way," Elena said, her voice steady.
"Our divorce became final just in time."
Marcus frowned, his impatience quickly turning into confusion.
"What does that mean?"
"It means my father's company was transferred to me this morning," Elena explained, watching his expression shift.
"All five hundred million.
If we were still married, you would have had a claim to it."
The smug smile instantly vanished from Chloe's face, her eyes widening in shock.
Marcus bolted upright, his heart dropping as the gravity of what he had just surrendered set in.
"Wait!" Marcus stammered, stepping forward.
But Elena was already finished with him.
"Enjoy the woman you chose," she said calmly, turning her back on him.

"I'll enjoy the life you just lost."
She walked out of the room, leaving the two of them frozen in stunned silence.
