Chapter 1: The Bottle She Thought I Didn't See
Eight Months Pregnant, I Suddenly Collapsed After Eating Dinner Prepared By My Mother-In-Law—And My Husband Walked In At The Worst Possible Moment.
I saw Margaret standing over my plate when I came back into the kitchen.
She quickly slipped a tiny bottle into her purse.
"What was that?" I asked.
My mother-in-law smiled like nothing had happened.
"Just seasoning, Emily.
Sit down before your food gets cold."
I was eight months pregnant, exhausted, and too hungry to argue.
My husband, Ryan, was still at work across Dallas, so Margaret and I were alone.
I took several bites.
Within minutes, something felt wrong.
A sharp pain twisted through my stomach.
I dropped my fork.
"Margaret…"
She stared at me without moving.
"My stomach."
I tried to stand, but another wave of pain doubled me over.
Then I felt something warm run down my leg.
"Oh my God."
I clutched the edge of the table.
"Call 911!"
Margaret still didn't reach for her phone.
Instead, she quietly picked up my plate and carried it toward the sink.
"What are you doing?" I gasped.
"You're probably just going into labor."
"Then call an ambulance!"
Before she could answer, the front door opened.
"Emily?"
Ryan rushed into the kitchen and froze when he saw me on the floor.
He dropped beside me.
"What happened?"
Margaret immediately started crying.
"I don't know!
She was eating and suddenly collapsed!"
I looked at her standing beside the sink with my half-empty plate.
Then I remembered something Ryan had installed three weeks earlier after packages kept disappearing.
The new kitchen security camera.
I grabbed his wrist and pointed weakly toward the ceiling.
"Ryan…"
Margaret's face suddenly went white.
I forced out the words.
"Open the camera footage."
Ryan slowly looked from me to his mother.
And before he could reach for his phone, Margaret screamed, "DON'T!"
---
What did Margaret put in Emily's food — and what is on that camera footage?
