Chapter 1: He Told Me to Be Quiet

During labor, my husband begged me to moan more quietly, then left me alone with our triplets and went on vacation because the birth was "too stressful" for him — but when he came home, he screamed, "This can't be happening!"

My husband, Eric, and I had been married for four years when we found out we were having triplets.

He had always talked about wanting a big family, and when we first saw the ultrasound, he was absolutely over the moon.

He couldn't wait to be a dad.

But as the reality of three babies approached, that initial excitement faded.

When the time finally came to deliver, the hospital room was busy and loud.

Instead of being supportive, Eric just seemed annoyed by the whole process.

At one point, I cried out during a particularly strong contraction.

He actually leaned over and whispered, "Can you try to be a little quieter?

You're making a scene, and it's really stressing me out."

A few days later, we brought our three babies home.

I was completely exhausted and just trying to figure out a basic routine.

But less than a week into it, Eric packed a large suitcase.

He casually announced that the sudden change and the crying were too much for his mental health.

He told me he had booked a two-week trip with some friends to Cabo to "reset." Before I could even process what was happening, he walked out the door, leaving me to handle three newborns almost entirely on my own.

Those two weeks were the hardest I had ever been through.

My sister helped whenever she could, but most of the feedings, the crying, and the sleepless nights fell on me.

Yesterday evening, Eric finally came back, tanned and completely relaxed.

He unlocked the front door, probably expecting to just slide right back into our normal routine.

Instead, he stopped cold in the living room, dropped his suitcase on the floor, and screamed, "This can't be happening!"
