Chapter 1: The Woman Who Taught Me to Survive

Years ago, my stepmother kicked me out on my 18th birthday, saying, "Survive on your own." — yesterday, she showed up on my doorstep, and what she had the audacity to ask for made my bl00d run cold.

I never knew my real mother.

She passed away giving birth to me, leaving my father and me to navigate life as a duo.

He was my absolute hero and my entire world—at least until he married Brenda.

Brenda never loved me.

She saw me as competition for my father's attention and slowly started planting toxic seeds of doubt in his mind.

The final blow came just before my 18th birthday.

Brenda suddenly "lost" her expensive diamond necklace and conveniently found it hidden at the bottom of my bedroom drawer.

My dad, completely blinded by her manipulation, actually believed her lies over my tears.

On the morning of my 18th birthday, Brenda woke me up at dawn and shoved two black garbage bags filled with my clothes into my hands.

While my father stood silently at the top of the stairs, refusing to even glance at me, she pushed me out the front door.

Before slamming it shut, she smirked, locked the deadbolt, and coldly mouthed through the glass, "Survive on your own."

And I did.

I couch-surfed at friends' houses, worked grueling minimum-wage jobs, and survived on cheap instant noodles.

It was absolute hell, but the struggle forged me into steel.

Over the next ten years, I put myself through college, built a thriving career, and met the love of my life.

We bought a gorgeous home in a quiet neighborhood and recently welcomed our perfect baby girl into the world.

I hadn't spoken to my father or Brenda in a decade.

But yesterday afternoon, the doorbell rang.

I opened it and completely froze.

Standing on my porch was a frail, gaunt woman in dirty, threadbare clothes.

She looked absolutely horrific, trembling in the cold.

She was a far cry from the smug, controlling woman who had thrown me away like garbage.

It was Brenda.

After ten years of dead silence, she showed up on my doorstep, and what she had the audacity to ask for made my bl00d run cold.
