Chapter 1: The Note Inside the Pink Sweater
My 5-year-old daughter passed away in the hospital — after her funeral, the nurse who had cared for her handed me a flash drive and a note that read, "DON'T TRUST YOUR HUSBAND.
Watch the security camera footage."
A few weeks ago, my five-year-old daughter, Grace, became very sick.
Her fever wouldn't go down — it just kept climbing higher.
She was rushed to the hospital.
The doctors ran test after test, trying to figure out what was happening to her.
Suddenly, Grace got even worse, and they moved her to the ICU.
They wouldn't let me inside.
A short while later, the doctor came out.
He told us Grace hadn't made it.
My husband stood there, pale as a ghost.
At that moment, it felt like the ground had disappeared beneath my feet.
For days afterward, I just sat alone in my room, staring into space.
My entire world had fallen apart.
My husband handled all the funeral arrangements.
After the funeral, I received a call from the hospital.
They said they still had a few of Grace's belongings and asked me to come pick them up.
I forced myself to go.
The nurse who had cared for Grace that day met me in the hallway and handed me a bag containing Grace's things.
She kept her eyes on the floor, and something about her behavior seemed off.
But I was too emotionally drained to ask if she was okay, so I simply left.
When I got home, I carried the bag into Grace's bedroom.
I took out her clothes and laid everything on the bed.
But when I picked up the pink sweater Grace had been wearing the day she was admitted to the hospital, SOMETHING slipped out of one of the sleeves.
It was a note.
A flash drive had been taped to it.
I unfolded the paper and read:
"This flash drive contains the hospital security camera footage from THE DAY Grace d\*ed.
Please watch it if you want to know what REALLY happened.
DON'T TRUST YOUR HUSBAND."
My heart began pounding.
I waited until my husband had fallen asleep.
Then I took out my laptop and plugged in the flash drive.
It really did contain security footage from the hospital on the day Grace d\*ed.
I clicked play.
I nearly collapsed when I saw WHAT had really happened that day.
