Chapter 1: The Glass That Was Never an Accident

My name is Olivia, and thirty minutes into my own wedding reception, my mother-in-law "tripped" while walking past me and sent an entire glass of red wine down the front of my white dress.
She apologized loudly, in front of every guest, then walked away smiling like nothing had happened.
I found my husband in the bathroom hallway ten minutes later, dabbing at my ruined dress with a wet towel, both of us fighting back tears on what was supposed to be the happiest day of our lives.
He held my face in his hands and said, "I know exactly how to handle this.
Give me a few days.
Trust me."
I didn't ask what he meant.
I just nodded.
Five days later, his mother had the biggest presentation of her career — pitching a major new client in front of her entire company's leadership team, the deal she'd been preparing for months.
My husband told me to dress professionally and come with him that morning.
He wouldn't say why.
We slipped quietly into the back of the conference room just as she stepped up to the podium, opening her laptop, straightening her blazer, clearly ready to impress everyone in that room.
That's when I saw him start moving.
He walked calmly toward the front, stepping up right behind her, holding a full, unopened bottle of red wine in both hands.
---
What is he about to do — and will she finally understand what she put Olivia through?
