Chapter 1: The Cupcake and the Folder
I watched my 4-year-old daughter smile as the waitress handed her a cupcake.
Seconds later, she was on the floor crying.
My mother-in-law stood over her like SHE was the one who'd been wronged.
"Mommy!" my little girl sobbed, reaching for me with tears filling those big gray eyes.
I ran to her and pulled her into my arms.
Then my husband stormed over.
For one second, I thought he was coming to protect his daughter.
I was wrong.
He grabbed my arm and hissed:
"It's my sister's wedding.
Don't ruin this."
I stared at him.
Our daughter was trembling against my chest, and all he cared about was his sister's perfect wedding.
That was when something inside me snapped.
I reached into my bag and pulled out the folder I'd been waiting to show him.
His face went pale the moment he saw what was inside.
Because there was one thing his entire family apparently thought I would never find out…
